ROB HOWAT
Canada had been a desired goal as long as I can remember. We are now here, that is Bev my wife and I. My son is married to a Canadian he met at Norwood High School many years ago, and we have a Canadian Grandson. Our daughter and her family are in the process of applying to follow the rest of us. We arrived four years ago having taken early retirement, bought a beautiful house while awaiting our final entry papers with the inevitable six months here and six months there . My aim was to develop my Art and my writing. My wife’s was to relocate to a friendlier and happier environment, Canada. Interestingly we have more relative here than in the UK. I studied Art through UK museum courses, night school, Art Appreciation tours at the National Art Gallery, London and have toured Europe as well as crossing Canada so seeing many additional forms of art. Having attended courses with several well known Canadian artists such as Eddie le Page, Michele Clarkson, Chuck Burns, Sonia Cummings and Lucy Manley different stiles and approaches aid my work. However, I owe a great debt to Geneen Eyers (Cdn) and Heather Joliffe, RA (UK). As a keen supporter, now a Director, of the Norwood Fall Fair I have gained a number of awards over the years including a number of 1st.prizes for photography and Art. This obviously has been a great encouragement. Over the years I have worked in precious metals for jewelry, stained glass, pottery, enameling, pastels, oils, acrylics, watercolours, kaolin board, encaustic work, photography, lino cuts, batik, screen printing, dry point, digital photography and computer graphics . I can safely say I do not have a favorite though watercolours seem to be the more convenient. I joined KAGS about two years ago, on the recommendation of Lois Bell and Geneen Eyers and have enjoyed it greatly. This must be one of the most welcoming and friendly groups to belong to. I have benefited from considerable encouragement and good advice: there is no shortage of experience and skills here.
