As
the new year came around and my membership once again was due, I found
myself, as I’m sure it is with many of our newer members, wanting to learn
more of what KAGS has to offer me as artist. In the beginning I thought
KAGS would be a place where I might enter some paintings in an occasional
show, have the privilege of belonging to a group even if distantly, and
perhaps someday taking in a class. An assignment for this newsletter really
gave me insight. The assignment began as a means of showcasing the various
classes available to all members and non-members alike, but its what I found
in the process that has given me an eye opener or should I say palette
opener. I managed to check out four. Classes fluctuate between 6—12
artists of all skill levels.
The Outdoor Painters
can have
as many as 28 artists. Tuesday
Watercolours with Sharon
provide demonstrations by a seasoned instructor, offering individual critique
and guidance, while classes like Tuesday
Life Drawing,
Wednesday
Portraits,
or
Paint-Outs & Paint-ins
offer
more individual work, deep concentration and peer critique. Above all, what
I found most intriguing was an atmosphere of encouragement and kinship. An
atmosphere where an artist can try something different whether it is a new
medium or different subject matter. I could go on and on listing all the
basic facts of each class, but I feel it’s what’s underneath all the
structure that’s of real value. The inspiration I walked away with was
almost overwhelming and all I had done was observe the goings on! I
couldn’t wait to jump into my creativity, and made a personal vow to begin
attending a class the following week. And so I did, and in all my
excitement I forgot to take my paint palette!! None the less, I stayed and
played enriching my imagination and my spirit.
I
urge all members to not let these little gems pass you by. You will find a
welcoming group of kindred souls, laughter, and above all an artistic outlet
that will let you soar. I
gathered up my camera and note pad and set off for a visit. There are
six different classes ...Debara
