Linda Patterson

Born and raised in Chatham, Ontario. Linda's mother was an artist and she benefited from her example and encouragement all her life. While growing up she took art lessons, most notably from Phyllis Fricker and Gordon Perrier. Their gifted teaching gave her a good foundation when she went to study Fine Art at the University of Toronto. At U of T, Linda became very interested in printmaking, particularly in etching. Following graduation, she continued her interest at the newly opened, Open Studio. The lack of access to a press has limited her etching. However, she is still drawing and painting whenever she can. Her favorite subjects are landscape and architecture, but she enjoys life drawing and still life as well.

Artist Statement

My work has appeared in a Mother/Daughter show in Chatham and at many Art Marts. Some of my pen and ink sketches documenting the vanishing streetscape of Kensington Market are in the National Archives. I have executed many commissions for sketches of people’s homes and gardens.

Living in Europe for a year in my twenties shaped my view of life and my artistic style. It is still evolving to this day. My work as a high school Art teacher has encouraged me to try new media and pursue different directions. I look forward to having even more fun in the future.
